FAQs: Eye Tests
-
What should I expect from my 'routine' Eye Test?
The 'routine' Eye Test will involve the Optometrist talking to you about your medical and ocular history as well as any relevant symptoms.
You will then be asked to read a letter chart before a series of bright (but harmless) shining lights are used to examine your eyes.
A gentle puff of air will then measure the pressure of the eye and you may be asked to undertake a peripheral vision test if it is deemed necessary by the Optometrist.
The Optometrist will also take a retinal photograph, (the back of the eye) to confirm normality and good ocular health.
Finally a series of lenses will be placed in front of your eyes to determine if a vision correction is required.
At the end of the examination, the Optometrist will summarise findings, discuss possible glasses and contact lens options and introduce you to their Dispenser.
Every patient will receive their Optical prescription summarising their examination.

How often should I get my Eyes Tested?
Routine Eye Tests are recommended every two years for adults and annually for children.
Considering that your eyes age like any other part of the body, we recommend annual Eye Tests over the age of 70.

Do you accept NHS patients?
The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies (funding does not apply to everyone).
In some cases, the NHS will also give an optical voucher towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses.
All of our patients receive the same level of customer service, advice and follow-up services, regardless of whether their eye test is NHS-funded or not.
